US needs AI vehicles to stay superior

October 13, 2023

Artificial intelligence, or AI, is already transforming many aspects of our lives, from entertainment to health care to education. But did you know that AI is also revolutionizing the way wars are fought and won?

According to a recent article by Fox News, retired Army Gen. Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, believes that AI is a critical component of keeping the US military one step ahead of potential adversaries. He said that future wars will look drastically different with the rapid development of AI technology, and that the US military will have to change and adopt it if they want to win.

One of the ways that AI can help the US military is by speeding up the process of observing, orienting, deciding, and acting (OODA) in complex and uncertain situations. AI can analyze large chunks of information and give suggestions on where and when to move US forces. This can give the US an edge over its enemies, who may not have access to such advanced technology.

Another way that AI can assist the US military is by creating autonomous vehicles and weapon systems that can operate without human intervention. These include drones, robots, submarines, and missiles that can sense, communicate, and act on their own. These can reduce the risk of human casualties and increase the efficiency and accuracy of military operations.

However, AI also poses some challenges and risks for the US military. For example, AI could make wars more likely by lowering the threshold for conflict and increasing the speed and intensity of escalation. AI could also create ethical dilemmas and legal issues regarding the use of lethal force and accountability for mistakes. Moreover, AI could be hacked, manipulated, or used by hostile actors for malicious purposes.

Therefore, the US military needs to be careful and responsible in developing and deploying AI technologies. It also needs to collaborate with allies, partners, and international organizations to establish norms and rules for the use of AI in warfare. By doing so, the US military can ensure that AI is used for good and not evil, and that it serves the interests of peace and security.

I hope you enjoyed this article and learned something new about AI and war. Stay tuned for more AI news. Thanks for reading!
