Meta, IBM, and many others form open source AI Alliance

December 5, 2023

This week, Meta and IBM have joined forces with 50 other organizations to create a new alliance that aims to advance open-source AI. What does that mean, you ask? Let's find out!

Open-source AI is a type of AI that anyone can use, modify, and share freely. It is different from proprietary AI, which is owned and controlled by a single company or entity. Open-source AI can foster collaboration, innovation, and transparency in the AI community, as well as reduce the risk of bias and misuse of AI.

The new alliance, called the International AI Alliance, or IAA for short, aims to promote the development and adoption of open-source AI across various domains and industries. The IAA will also work on creating standards and best practices for open-source AI, as well as providing education and training for AI developers and users.

Some of the members of the IAA include Meta, IBM, Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Twitter (X), Netflix, Spotify, Salesforce, Adobe, Intel, Nvidia, and many more. These are some of the biggest names in the tech world, and they have a lot of expertise and resources to contribute to the open-source AI movement.

The IAA was announced at the AI Summit, a global event that showcases the latest trends and innovations in AI. The IAA hopes to attract more members and partners in the future, and to become a leading voice and platform for open-source AI.

So, what does this mean for you, the average AI enthusiast? Well, it means that you can expect to see more and better AI products and services that are powered by open-source AI. You can also learn more about how AI works and how to use it responsibly and ethically. And you can join the open-source AI community and contribute to its growth and development.

Stay tuned for more of the latest news and updates in AI, and don't forget to share this with your friends and family. Thanks for reading!
