AI company bypasses regulation at sea? Don't be fooled

November 1, 2023

Have you ever dreamed of living on a floating island, away from the rules and regulations of any government? Well, you might not be the only one. A mysterious AI company called Del Complex claims to have a plan to do just that.

Del Complex is a US-based company that works on various fields of technology, such as AI, clean energy, neural prosthetics, robotics, and more. But what makes it stand out is its ambitious project to create its own sovereign nation-states on the ocean, each powered by a massive AI platform.

The company calls these nation-states BlueSea Frontier Compute Clusters (BSFCCs). Each BSFCC will be a floating structure that will house 10,000 Nvidia H100 GPUs, which are powerful chips designed for AI applications. The BSFCCs will also have their own energy sources, such as gas turbines, steam turbines, solar arrays, and batteries. The company says it will monitor and maintain the BSFCCs for system integrity, environmental safety, and biofouling (the accumulation of ocean organisms on the equipment).

But why does Del Complex want to create these BSFCCs in the first place? The company says it wants to avoid the interference of government regulations on AI innovation. It believes that the recent AI executive order by the Biden administration and the AI Act by the European Union are attempts to centralize control and limit the potential of AI. By creating its own nation-states on the ocean, Del Complex hopes to achieve a new level of autonomy and freedom for its AI research and development.

The company also says that the BSFCCs will offer additional benefits as tax shelter opportunities for third parties who want to rent them. However, it is unclear when the company plans to launch its first operational BSFCC, or whether it has already done so. There is one other major problem: it is unclear whether the company is even real. There is little information about its background, founders, or products. Their phone numbers only lead to pre-recorded messages and some of their designs appear AI generated.

What do you think of this AI company and its plan to create its own countries on the ocean? Do you think it is a visionary idea or a dangerous one? do you believe this is even real? Consider me a healthy skeptic. Let us know your thoughts in the comments below and stay tuned for the latest news in artificial intelligence!
